What Happens During Your First Personal Training Session?

What Happens During Your First Personal Training Session?

Walking into a personal training gym for the first time can feel intimidating.

"Will everyone be watching me?"

"Am I fit enough?"

"What if I don't know what I'm doing?"

If you've never worked with a personal trainer before, those thoughts are completely normal.

At Train With Adby, we believe your first session should make you, not break you.

Here's exactly what you can expect.

Step 1: A Friendly Conversation

Before you lift a single weight, we'll spend a little time getting to know you.

We'll chat about:

  • Your goals.

  • Your training history (if you have any).

  • Any injuries or aches and pains.

  • What you'd like to achieve over the coming months.

Whether you want to lose weight, build strength, improve your fitness or simply feel healthier, this helps us understand how we can best support you.

Step 2: Meet Your Coach

One of our coaches will guide you through the entire session.

You won't be left wondering what to do next or trying to work out how to lift weights on your own.

Everything is explained clearly, and you're encouraged to ask as many questions as you like.

Step 3: Learn The Movements

Your first session isn't about seeing how fit you are.

Or how strong you are.

It's about learning.

We'll introduce you to some of the fundamental strength exercises we use, helping you understand the correct technique before worrying about intensity or lifting heavier weights.

Every exercise can be adapted to suit your current ability.

Whether you've never touched a dumbbell or you've trained before, we'll meet you where you are.

Step 4: Train At Your Own Level

One of the biggest misconceptions about personal training is that everyone is pushed to their limits.

That's not how we coach.

Our philosophy is simple:

Challenge you.

Not break you.

You'll work at a level that's appropriate for you, while still leaving feeling like you've achieved something.

Step 5: Experience Personal Training In Small Groups

Although you'll be training alongside other members, your session is personalised to you.

That means:

  • Different weights.

  • Different exercise variations if needed.

  • Individual coaching.

  • Technique corrections.

  • Encouragement throughout the session.

You'll quickly realise everyone is focused on their own workout—not judging yours.

What If I'm Nervous?

Honestly...

Most people are.

This is normal and something to not be afraid of.

Many of our members tell us they nearly cancelled before their first session because they felt anxious.

Within minutes, those nerves usually disappear.

You'll be welcomed by your coach (we will be expecting you), introduced to the group and guided through everything step by step.

Nobody expects you to know what you're doing.

That's exactly what we're here for.

What Won't Happen

Let's clear up a few common fears.

We won't:

  • Make you do burpees for an hour.

  • Shout at you.

  • Compare you to anyone else.

  • Push you beyond your ability.

  • Expect you to be fit before you arrive.

Our goal isn't to leave you exhausted.

It's to leave you excited to come back.

What Happens After Your First Session?

By the end of your first session, you'll have a much better understanding of how we coach and what makes our approach different.

More importantly, you'll leave knowing that getting stronger doesn't have to be intimidating.

It can actually be enjoyable.

From there, we'll continue building your confidence, improving your technique and helping you get stronger every single week.
