What Is Personal Training, in Small Groups?

When it comes to getting fit and stronger, there are usually three types of gyms to choose from.

1. Commercial Gyms

First, you have your traditional commercial gym.

You pay for a membership, walk through the doors and, for the most part, you’re left to your own devices.

For some people, that works brilliantly.

But for many people, especially those who are new to strength training, it can feel overwhelming.

What exercises should you do?

How do you use the equipment?

Are you doing it correctly?

How heavy should you lift?

How hard should you push yourself?

Without any guidance, it’s easy to feel intimidated, lose confidence or simply repeat the same few exercises every time you visit.

And, eventually, stop going altogether.

2. Group Training and Fitness Classes

Then you have group training.

This can mean anything from six people to 30 or more people following one instructor through the same workout.

Group training can be fun, energetic and motivating.

But it can still lack the individual coaching that many people need.

You might be following along with the workout, but do you understand why you’re doing each exercise? Is someone watching your technique? Are you moving correctly? Is the exercise right for your ability and experience?

And if you’re doing something wrong, is there enough coaching available to notice and correct it?

For many everyday people, especially those who are new to strength training, simply being told what to do isn’t enough.

You need to be coached.

3. Personal Training, in Small Groups

This is where we come in.

At Train With Adby, we deliver personal training in small groups to people from Romiley, Marple and the surrounding Stockport area.

We have a maximum ratio of one coach to every six members.

Why?

Because we want to actually coach the person in front of us.

We guide you through your entire workout from start to finish. We adapt exercises based on your experience and ability. We help you choose the right weights, improve your technique and understand how hard you should be working.

You’re not simply following an instructor.

You’re being personally coached.

The session might be shared with other people, but the coaching is personal to you.

You Don’t Need to Do Burpees (and Probably Shouldn’t)

Most of our members don’t need a bootcamp full of burpees, jumping around and high-impact HIIT exercises.

They need something they can actually keep doing.

Our members range from around 30 to 70 years old, and our focus is on sustainable strength training, high-quality movement patterns and exercises that can be adapted to the person in front of us.

We want our members to get stronger and retain muscle as they get older.

Not just to look better — although that can be a nice benefit too.

But to live a better quality of life.

To chase after the kids or grandkids. To keep playing sport. To enjoy skiing holidays. To feel strong, capable and confident in everyday life.

You don’t need to live in the gym to achieve that.

For many people, just two high-quality strength workouts per week can create life-changing results when they’re done properly and consistently.

That’s where we come in.

Why Not Just Have One-to-One Personal Training?

One-to-one personal training can be great, but there’s a problem we noticed more than 10 years ago.

Most people can only afford or commit to seeing their personal trainer once per week.

They often have a separate gym membership too, with every intention of training on their own between sessions.

But those extra gym sessions often don’t happen.

We saw this problem ourselves before opening our gym.

When we moved to personal training in small groups, we were able to coach our members more often, alongside other people.

That meant they could have the guidance of a personal trainer more than once per week, while also getting the enjoyment, community and challenge that comes from training with others.

For many people, it’s the best of both worlds.

You’re not left alone in a commercial gym.

You’re not lost in a large fitness class.

And you’re not limited to seeing a personal trainer once per week.

You get personal training, in small groups.

What If You’re a Complete Beginner?

Even better.

We coach absolute beginners every single day.

You don’t need to know how to lift weights.

You don’t need to know how to use the equipment.

And you definitely don’t need to get fit before you start.

That’s the whole point of having a coach.

We’ll meet you where you are, guide you through the entire session and help you build your confidence as you get stronger.
