Is Personal Training in Small Groups suitable for Beginners?

One of the biggest things we hear from people before they start is:

“Will I know what to do?”

“I’m a bit nervous.”

“I’ve never lifted weights before.”

“I’m really weak.”

“I don’t have any upper-body strength.”

If any of those sound like you, you’re exactly the kind of person personal training is for.

You don’t need to know what you’re doing before you start.

That’s the whole point of having a coach.

It Starts Before You Even Enter the Gym

Before your first session at Train With Adby, we start with a phone call.

We want to understand your goals, your background and your exercise history.

Have you trained before? Are you completely new to the gym? Do you have any injuries or exercises you’re worried about? What do you actually want to achieve?

We then pass that information over to our coaching team before you arrive, so your coach already knows a little bit about you.

From there, we book your first session.

What Happens in Your First Session?

That depends on the person in front of us.

If you’re brand new to gym life, we’ll start you with a lighter session and coach you through the fundamentals of strength training.

We’ll show you how to move, how to use the equipment and how the exercises should feel.

If you’re already fairly confident in the gym, we can integrate you into the group and scale the workout to meet your needs.

Either way, you’ll be training in a small group, but your personal trainer will take care of everything.

You don’t need to remember the workout.

You don’t need to know which weights to choose.

You don’t need to worry about whether you’re doing it right.

That’s our job.

We Don’t Beast or Break You. We Make You.

What if you’re really unfit?

Really weak?

Have bad knees?

Or there are exercises you simply can’t do?

That’s where coaching comes in.

We’ll find an exercise variation you can do pain-free, then build up your strength and movement over time.

We can adjust exercises if something doesn’t agree with you.

Because we focus on movement and technique quality first, we’re able to assess all of this within your first couple of workouts.

The same applies if you feel unfit or weak.

We’re not here to beast you or break you.

We’re here to make you.

That means finding the right level to challenge you — enough intensity to help you make progress, but not so much that it breaks you.

Finding that level is what coaching is all about.

What Surprises Beginners the Most?

Usually, three things.

How friendly the community is.

How good the energy is.

And how much coaching they actually receive.

One member who had never been to a gym before said:

“I’d never been to a gym before, but I did the 21-Day Challenge. The coaches made me feel welcome from day one and took the time to explain everything clearly.”

They described the atmosphere as:

“Friendly and non-judgemental.”

Another member came in feeling nervous about weights and strength training:

“I’m not confident when it comes to gym weights and strength training, and thought I would be intimidated by experienced members, but this gym is far from that.”

That’s exactly what we want.

You should feel like somebody knows who you are, knows what you’re working on and is there to help you get better.

Do I Need to Get Fit Before I Start?

No.

There is no perfect time to start.

You don’t need to be great to start.

But you have to start to be great.

Three months from now, you could already be stronger, more confident and further ahead than you are today.

Or you could put it off for another three months and still be thinking about starting.
